A doof or bush doof is a type of outdoor dance party in Australia, generally held in a remote country area or just outside big cities in surrounding bush or rainforests and similar to raves or teknivals, but with a different, more empathetic atmosphere. Doofs generally have live electronic artists and DJs playing a range of electronic music, commonly Goa and psychedelic trance. (Source)

Culture

Doofing is generally regarded as a hippy subculture and while this is mostly true, people from all sorts of subcultures attend the events.

Young people, old people, middle age people, doctors, lawyers, accountants are just some of the types of people that attend the events, we don't discriminate based on race and everyone is treated as a friend right from the beginning. This is one of the things that makes the doofing culture such a great culture.

"The underground form of doofing is characterised by a slogan PLUR, which is an acronym for Peace, Love, Unity and Respect. The ethos of a rave party is that anyone, no matter what their beliefs or socio-economic and educational status, can participate. One does not need to be a skilled dancer to belong. In fact the notion of “respect” carries with it the sense that those who dance are not to be judged on the basis of their appearance or skills on the dance floor." (Source)

What to Expect

Anything! Good Music, Good People, wonderful things to look at and most of all, a little bit of freedom!

Common Misconceptions

"Isn't it all full of drugs?" - A little bit maybe, but it's not as if you're forced to take drugs when you're there. Most people will accept "No" for an answer.
"I heard you could get arrested for being there?" - Nope, the worst that could happen is that you get searched by the police for drugs. If you've got no drugs, you've got nothing to hide.
"Isn't it just a bunch of hippies getting stoned?" - Nope, while there are a few old "hippies" that turn up, it's more about the freedom to do what you want. You're not going to get turned away at the gate for not wearing closed footwear/proper shirt like you would a pub or club.

History

The history of doofing is kinda big. Someone please write this for me ;)

More Information

There are a number of websites and documentaries that have information about doofing.

A great documentary that covers everything about the culture as well as showing a lot of the ideas we're aiming to achieve with this project is Welcome to Wonderland.
